Fitness Woes

by Corrine

I still have 8 months left in my Fitness First contract and I’m starting to get exhausted by it. It takes a lot of effort to regularly visit the gym, I tell you.

After freezing our contract for two months, Babe and I will (hopefully) go back to the gym on January. I guess it’s the perfect time to get rid of all the pounds I’m about to gain during the holidays. Besides, summer will arrive soon so I must lose weight.

In total, we’ll be paying a whopping Php30,000 for the duration of our membership. Now that I’ve thought about it, maybe I should’ve just saved it for my (nonexistent) car fund. Well, whatever. I signed the contract so I might as well make full use of what Fitness First has to offer, right? I just hope I find the energy to hit the gym even after a grueling day at the office. Or better yet, may I find a Fitness First gym that I can call home. Haha.

As I’m working in Makati now, I’ve no one to accompany me on days (or nights) when I want to burn the lbs. I just found out that there’s a Fitness First branch at Robinsons Summit Centre. I might try that branch on January. But if I don’t like the people there, I’ll just work out at Wynsum.

Tomorrow is December 10. Tomorrow is one of those dates that I will eternally remember. I will be singing and dancing to a Spice Girls song with two officemates. Gaaaah. I’m not deathly afraid of dancing because I’ve danced in front of people before as a high school student.

What I’m completely terrified for is wreaking havoc with my creature-from-somewhere-endowed singing voice. May God bless my workmates’ ears tomorrow night.

Living Healthy

by Corrine

It’s official! I’m a Fitness First member!

Last night, Babe and I went to the Wynsum Plaza to check out Fitness First and inquired about their membership program. The guy who assisted us –Junix–was really helpful. He toured us around the place and I loved it. Junix had everyone take a body assessment so we’d know what our goals would be. Last time I checked my weight, it was 100 lbs. But last night, I learned that I only weigh 95 lbs. The details of the Body Composition Analyzer:

Height: 5 ft. 1.0 in

Weight: 95.4 lbs.

BMI: 18.0

Fat Percentage: 18.9%

Fat Mass: 18.0 lbs.

So above is my current weight and BMI. But according to them, I should have the following:

Fat Percentage: 17-24%

Fat Mass: 15.8-24.4lbs.

Target BF (Body Fat) Percentage: 21%

Predicted Weight: 98.0 lbs.

Predicted Fat Mass: 20.6 lbs.

FAT TO GAIN: 2.6 lbs.

Technically, my weight is alright. But according to the Fitness First girl who assessed me, I need to fatten up a little.

There are a variety of membership options over at Fitness First. They have Lifestyle and Premium membership. Lifestyle is a 12-month and ongoing commitment while Premium is a 4-month membership. Lifestyle is cheaper than the Premium membership though, so we picked the Lifestyle package.

For those who would like to join Fitness First, their normal joining fee is at around 7,000 pesos (5,000 joining fee and 2,100 admin fee). This 7,000-peso payment is already good for one year (Lifestyle membership) but they also have a monthly fee which costs 2,650 pesos.

Luckily, it was the last day of their promo for couples so we managed to get a really good deal. How good? Well, they waived the joining fee and only made us pay the admin fee! Totally awesome bargain. But Babe and I were a little hesitant too since we would have to pay the monthly fee (2,650 pesos but since we got to avail the promo, it was slashed to 2,500 pesos) the day after. You have to have a credit card first (or at least know someone who has one) before you can join the club.

Ken, Jeck, and May went there with us too so we borrowed Ken’s credit card. What’s nice is that we can change credit card details eventually. I already asked my mom if she could let us use her bank details and she said yes.

This whole healthy living shit is exciting. Tomorrow, we’ll be going back to Metro Badminton after work with Sir Ron again. But this time around, Jeck and Ken will tag along. And then we’ll have our first day at Fitness First on Thursday night. Whew!

I want to try working out on mornings instead of hitting the gym after work. Thing is, I have to be at the gym by 6:00 AM so I can work out until 9:00 AM, in time for our 10:00 AM reporting to the office.

With all these activities in line, I’m broke too. I was not supposed to spend much this week until next week because we’re going to Bicol for three days next week. Oh money trouble, I hate you right now.

Back to Badminton

by Corrine

If you’ve been following my Twitter, you would know that Babe and I seriously need to get in shape. And part of our plan is sign up at Fitness First and play Badminton at least once or twice a week. Luckily Sir Ron and his girlfriend, Ms. Marie, would also like to try their hand at Badminton so we found ourselves Badminton buddies.

Yesterday, we all met up at SM Megamall where Ms. Marie bought a Wilson Badminton racket first. I was a varsity player back in elementary and early high school and the most expensive Yonex rackets then cost around 2,000 pesos. I was surprised to see that Yonex sells for 4,000 pesos now. We went to Metro Badminton, it’s near Robinsons Pioneer and just behind Cybergate Center.

Ms. Marie and Sir Ron before playing

Babe actually doesn’t know how to play very much. He looked good playing though. Haha. I’m pretty sure he’s still in bed while I’m writing this. His arms and legs must be aching. Oh well, that’s a good sign though. On Monday, we’ll check the Fitness First branch at the Penthouse of Wynsum Corporate Plaza. It’s right behind our office, which would be super convenient for us.

Babe after the game

The place was packed! I saw several players who I can tell have been playing for a long time. I suddenly envied them. What if I continued my Badminton career? What if I never stopped training, never stopped playing, never got too busy to play?  Maybe I wouldn’t be as rusty as I was yesterday. God, I sucked. Okay, maybe I was exaggerating but my form and stance were not in top form. At least I still have the stamina to run around the court, though.

Super sweaty after the game!

Babe and I won over the other couple. But we also had a girls versus boys match where, of course, we won. Haha. Right after playing, we went to Yoohoo Bar-B-Q Grill (I’m not sure if that’s the right spelling) which is also very near Metro Badminton. We had Sisig, Barbecue, Bangus, Tokwa, and a bucket of beer.

Talk about losing weight, eh?
